Francis Anthony Fareri, 86, of Quincy, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on October 3, 2026. Born on July 3, 1940, in Boston, Fran grew up in Wollaston and was a proud lifelong Quincy resident. He attended North Quincy High School where he formed friendships that remained important to him throughout his life.
Fran and his wife, Sandra McGeoghegan Fareri, were married for 53 years. Their home was filled with family, laughter, and many happy memories. Fran’s house was a place of warm hospitality-he regularly welcomed not only their friends, but also the friends of his children and grandchildren. He genuinely enjoyed talking with people and took a real interest in their lives. When you were with him you felt welcomed, cared for and important.
Fran was employed in the MBTA’s legal department for more than 25 years before retiring. But retirement was short lived as he went on to work in the Boston Public School System as a paraprofessional, a role he called the best retirement job he could ask for. In his 20 years at the Charles R. Edwards Middle School in Charlestown, Fran was known for his devotion to his students and his work ethic that earned him the respect of his colleagues.
Fran was incredibly generous with his time and energy. He was always willing to step up and gave freely whenever there was an opportunity to help others. Fran loved being involved in the Merrymount Association and was an organizer of the annual Fourth of July parade in the neighborhood for many years. He volunteered for the American Red Cross and was a CPR instructor. He was also a longtime supporter of Archbishop Williams High School and one of the founders of Archie’s Place, a major fundraiser for the school.
Fran rarely turned down an invitation to adventure. Even in his 80s, Fran was up for a kayak ride or a parasailing trip. He brought that same enthusiasm to everyday life, always ready to get moving, try something new, or make another memory with the people he loved.
Fran’s favorite place in the world was his cottage in Harwichport, which he called his “happy place.” He spent as much time on “old Cape Cod” as possible where he raised his children and provided cherished memories for his grandchildren.
Fran was always quick with a one-liner and never missed an opportunity to crack a bad dad joke whether at a doctor’s appointment, a restaurant or on a trip to the market. Wherever he was, Fran’s welcoming smile and easy way made people feel right at home.
Above all, Fran loved being involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren. At any sporting event, cheerleading competition, dance recital, or theatre performance, “Papa” was in the front row leading the cheers.
Fran had a wonderful and full life. His enduring legacy is the love he showered on his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will all carry his memory forever.
Fran was predeceased by the love of his life, Sandra McGeoghegan Fareri, and by his parents, Mary and Anthony Fareri.
Fran leaves behind his loving children, Mark Fareri of Quincy; Suzanne Fareri-Early of Quincy; and Kathleen Pease and her husband Ed, of North Andover; his sister Santa Fareri and her partner, Pam Withee, of Duxbury and his seven cherished grandchildren, Alexandra Weinstein and her husband, Billy; Joseph Early, John Early, Molly Early and her fiance Jake Thomas; Owen Pease, Bennett Pease, and Sadie Pease, and great-grandsons Charlie and Jack.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather for calling hours on Thursday, October 8, from 4-8 p.m. at Keohane Funeral Home in North Weymouth, 40 Sea St, Weymouth MA. A celebration of life service will be held in the funeral home on Friday morning at 9am, followed by a Funeral Mass on Friday, October 9 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 237 Sea St, Quincy, MA. Donations in Fran’s honor can be made to The Alzheimer's Association https://Alzheimer's Association or COPE Communities Offering People Encouragement.
May he rest in eternal peace surrounded forever by the love he so freely gave to others. See www.Keohane .com for directions and on line condolences.
