Francis Xavier Doyle, Sr., died October 22, 2017 at the age of 87.
Born in Boston to the late William P. and Hannah G. Doyle. Currently of Quincy, formerly of South Boston, Brockton and Norfolk … but forever will consider Southie as his “hometown.” Survived by his best friend and loving wife of 65 years Geraldine (Prescott). Proud father of 11 children: Francis X. Doyle, Maureen Malcolm (Paul), Mark Doyle, Kevin Doyle, Marianne Flynn (Paul), William P. Doyle (Carla) Therese Doyle-Parillo (Paul), Sarah Doyle Larson (Matt), Geraldine Werning and John Doyle. Now reunited in heaven with his angel daughter Nancy Doyle and loving daughter-in-law Eileen Doyle. Devoted brother of Ann Sances Hawes, Patricia Vuilleumier and the late William P. Doyle. Brother-in-law to Margorie McCabe, Carol McGlone and the late Lorraine Mooney. As a loving grandfather, he was known as “Pa” to 19 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as treasured friends, many whose friendships spanned his lifetime. As a graduate of Boston College High and Boston College, Frank was a proud “Double Eagle”. He was honored to have served his country as a 1st lieutenant in the US Marines Corp and was thrilled to join other Korean War veterans as honorary marshalls of the Quincy Flag Day Parade in June 2017. Frank was respected in the food business for over 40 years working for Stop and Shop, Winter Hill Frozen Foods and Hendries before retiring in 1992.
Frank was a true gentleman who enjoyed spending time with his big family, get togethers with his Southie and BC friends, Irish music, following Iowa Hawkeyes football, conducting genealogy research, reading a good history book, engaging in a lively political debate, Tuesdays with his great-granddaughter Hannah, and walks on Castle Island just like he did on his first date in 1947 with his wife Gerry.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday Oct. 26, from 4-8 pm in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, 40 Sea Street, NORTH WEYMOUTH ( off Route 3A- Bicknell Sq.) A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home on Friday morning at 9:45am followed by a Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, 386 Hancock St. North Quincy, on Friday at 11am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Frank may be made to the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court Street, Boston, MA 02108.
