The legendary husband, father, grandfather and friend, Frederick W. Shadrick (“Fred”), age 90, passed away on February 17, 2026 at the Dr. Ruth McLain Hospice Home in Braintree, MA following complications from kidney failure. For the past 15 years he lived in Abington and Weymouth, MA. Prior to moving to Massachusetts, he lived in Michigan where he was born and raised.

Born August 5, 1935 in Detroit, he is survived by his loving son, Matthew “Matt” and fiancée, Lori Weeks of Hull, MA; grandsons Owen, Benjamin and William Shadrick and their mother Jennifer of Weymouth, MA; brother Dan Shadrick and wife Kathy of Northborough, MA and their family; and sister Nancy LeBeau and husband Dick and their family of Cincinnati, OH. He is pre-deceased by his wife Linda J. Shadrick and daughter Hilary L. Shadrick.

Fred began a dedicated and loving relationship for 64 years when he met his wife Linda on the campus of the University of Detroit (U of D). With humor and dedication, they raised their family in the suburbs of Detroit. Fred donated a kidney to his daughter and with Linda, was committed to compassionate care and family wellbeing. When they moved to Massachusetts, Fred was an active participant in the lives of of his three grandsons. “Papa” was beloved by all.

Fred began his professional career as a teacher in Royal Oak, MI. After receiving a master's degree in history at U of D, he taught at the university level where he became Dean of Admissions, and then Vice President of Academics at the Detroit Institute of Technology. He left academia and for the next 25 years, “The Professor” took his philosophical approach to the executive business level, mentoring countless professionals and successfully running insurance brokerage businesses in Michigan and New York.

With a broad smile and bright eyes, he always shared his abundance of love, humor, intelligence and amazing life experiences. Fred was an expert golfer, voracious reader, author, Detroit and Michigan State University sports fan, dog lover and passionate fisherman. On the fishing trip he organized for 32 straight years with his son and best friends, the fishing was secondary to love and connectivity.

An intimate celebration of life with family and friends is planned for the near future.
