George E. Morris

George E Morris, formerly of Old Greenwich, CT, Easton, MD, and Stuart, FL, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, just shy of his 95th birthday.

Son of George E Morris Sr and Josephine (Grigas) Morris and brother of Cynthia Morris, Mary (Morris) Begin, Robert Morris and Gloria (Morris) Murphy. He is survived by his wife Mary of over 60 years, son Edward F Morris and predeceased by his daughter Janet (Morris) Jones. He will be fondly remembered by his daughter in law Nancy Bruguiere Morris, son in law Stuart Timothy Jones and grandchildren George Ryan Jones, Graham Stansel Jones, Charlotte Mary Jones, Charles Edward Morris, Hilary Jane Morris and Avery Ann Morris. George was born in Boston and grew up in Dorchester (St Brendan’s Parish). He taught himself to swim at Carson beach and learned to sail at Community Boating in Boston. George graduated from Boston English High School in 1948 and then went on to Boston University where he studied business and sailed for the BU sailing team. After his sophomore year he was drafted into the Marines for the Korean war. Fortunately, he was able to return and finish college. George met his wife Mary Lanergan at the Old Colony Ski Club in North Woodstock, NH. They enjoyed many ski weekends at Cannon Mountain in Franconia Notch. He went to work in New York City for Shearson Hammill, A.G. Becker, S.G. Warburg and then Bank Paribas. He was a member of the New York Stock Exchange. George was passionate about tennis, sailing, fishing and vacationing with family. George raced from Newport to Bermuda six times and played tennis regularly until he was 90. Although he was a hard worker, he humbly credits his success to good luck. We are grateful for the care George received at the Allerton House in Hingham. In lieu of flowers gifts can be made to Community Boating in Boston.

All services for George will be private. George will be laid to rest in St. Bridgets Cemetery in Maynard, MA . See www.Keohane.com for directions and online condolences.
