George J. Ferris, 85, of Weymouth and formerly of Quincy, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Quincy, George was the son of the late Harry and Adele (Moses) Ferris. He made his home in Weymouth for many years, where he became a steady presence for everyone who knew him.

George served the Weymouth Fire Department for 17 years, retiring as a Lieutenant, work that reflected the quiet sense of duty he brought to everything.

He was a gifted woodworker. His handcrafted cars and trains were small works of art, made with care and given freely to anyone who admired them, and his birdhouses found their way into homes from Maine to California. He was happiest in his garden, where his tomatoes were legendary, and he loved the outdoors, whether fishing, golfing, or just taking in the day. Every winter, he and Carol treasured their time together in Naples, Florida. Those slower days, side by side with Carol, were where he was most at peace.

Proud of his Lebanese heritage, George passed down the games, food, and stories that his whole family will carry on for generations.

He may not have always shown it, but behind closed doors George was always looking after everyone else, never seeking credit or thanks. That quiet, steady generosity was simply who he was.

George leaves a legacy measured not in things, but in the laughter of his grandchildren, the warmth of his family, and his countless everyday kindnesses. He kept his quick sense of humor right up to the very end, and he will be deeply missed.

Beloved husband of Carol A. (Waihkonen) Ferris, with whom he shared 69 years of love and devotion. Loving father of Jill A. Needham and her late husband Daniel of Weymouth, and Christopher G. Ferris and his wife Lisa of Marshfield.

Cherished Poppy to his six grandchildren, Zachary, Rachel, Ryan, Serena, Allie, and Jack. Brother of the late Olga Coriaty, William Ferris, Victoria Cicione, James Ferris, and Rosemarie Ricciotti. Also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are warmly invited to greet the family during visiting hours on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, North Weymouth, 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A, Bicknell Square).

On Monday, August 17, 2026, a Celebration of Life Service will begin at the funeral home at 9:15 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Church in Quincy at 10:00 AM.Interment Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth.
