George David Ward, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2025, at the age of 98.

Born May 10, 1927, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, George lived a life marked by service, dedication, good humor and enduring love for his family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Adelaide, his lifelong partner in love and life. George is survived by his daughters, Christine Rowe (and her husband, Jack) and Andrea Mercier (and her husband, Ken). He was a cherished grandfather to Patrick Rowe and his wife, Caitlyn, and an adored great grandfather to their children, George Casimir (“G2”) and Isla Story. George is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he honorably served in both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army. His courage and commitment to duty reflected his deep sense of honor and integrity. George was also an alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.

After his military service, George built a long and successful career in the baking industry, a profession that took him and his growing family across the country—including Virginia, Ohio, and ultimately Massachusetts. His professional journey was one of hard work, leadership, and camaraderie, and he brought warmth and good humor to every role he held.

George and Adelaide shared many adventures together over the course of their long and beautiful marriage. In their later years, they cherished their time in Fort Myers, Florida, where they enjoyed the sunshine, good friends, and many afternoons on (or around) the golf course. Though George often joked about his golf game never improving, he loved the game for the joy and company it brought.

George had a deep love for travel, especially cruises with his family, and some of his most treasured memories were the times (and tight quarters) he shared with his grandson where they developed the unique bond that only roommates can. In the end, they lovingly called each other “Roomie,” a title that said it all.

George will be remembered as endlessly charming, uniquely brilliant, perpetually kind, devastatingly witty, and unconditionally loving. His warmth and charm, generous heart, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He lived a full and meaningful life—one rooted in family, service, joy and compassion, and his memory will be treasured, now and forever.
