George J. Wirtz, Sr.

George J. Wirtz Sr., died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on May 5, 2025. George was born May 11, 1946 to Herman and Justine Wirtz, he was the second youngest of eight children. George grew up in Quincy, becoming a lifelong resident who raised his children there.

George attended the Quincy Public Schools system, enlisting into the United States Marine Corp at seventeen years old with his parents permission. He spent thirteen months in Vietnam in the 1st BN, 11th Marines Artillery Division “Alpha North” from 1965-1966. On April 18, 1966, his Company of ninety men were attacked ten miles north of De Nang, leaving 28 injured and five of his fellow Marines dead. He later in life reconnected with the men he served with, who live throughout the U.S., attending reunions every couple of years. George took pride in serving his country and being a United States Marine. After returning from his deployment in the fall of 1966, he was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant and moved back to Quincy.

His highlights in life were his grandkids and enjoying time with his loving partner Mary. He loved watching and hearing of accomplishments the kids made as they grew, whether it was good grades in school or outstanding sports achievements. Good grades meant money from Papa, so they always had extra incentive. George kept his grandkids on their toes, teaching them how to properly and proudly salute like a “real Marine”. He enjoyed long walks with his furry friend Sammy around the neighborhood, proudly introducing him to new people he met along the way. He was an avid sports fan. He never missed a golf, Red Sox, Bruins or Patriots game. The Masters was the crown jewel of them all, nothing else mattered from Thursday-Sunday (literally).

George is survived by his daughter Kelly and her husband Randy, Christine and her husband Sean, Georgie and his wife Adrienne, Eric and his wife Taylor, his adored grandchildren, Mackenzie, Tommy, Ryan, Madelyn, Jackson, Ella and Leo, his loving partner of 8 years Mary Antonius and is pre-deceased by his children's mother Diane Wirtz, and widower to Patricia O'Neill. George leaves behind a lifetime of friends that shared many memorable moments and will be missed by all.

Funeral services will be private. Burial will be at Mount Wollaston.
