Clancy, Glenn R., 61, of Quincy, formerly of Watertown, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, May 14, 2025, surrounded by his family after a hard fought battle against cancer.
Glenn was born in Watertown to the late Walter and Gloria (DeMaio) Clancy. Raised and educated there, he was a graduate of Watertown High School, class of 1981. He attended University of Lowell where he studied civil engineering and met the love of his life, Kathryn. Upon graduation, he accepted a job with the Town of Belmont, where he enjoyed a long and prestigious 40-year career, culminating in his position as Director of Community Development.
Glenn was a true renaissance man. He was an avid reader with a library of books whose subjects ranged from baseball, to the American revolution, to Agatha Christie. He appreciated musical talent, especially that of The Who, Bruce Springsteen, and Eric Church, so much so that in his later years, he took up playing the guitar. Glenn was a believer in the magic of Disney. He could teach a master class on how to navigate Disneyland to maximize the number of rides ridden per hour.
However, one of his greatest loves was found just 10 miles away at Fenway Park. He was a Red Sox aficionado, holding season tickets for 25 years and collecting autographed baseball cards of every player that ever donned a Red Sox Jersey. Although he still loved them at their worst, he was especially proud to be in attendance when the Sox clinched the World Series at Fenway Park in 2013.
He loved to travel, dine on good food, and sip a well-made old fashioned, but was most passionate about his wife and children. Nothing made him happier than following the achievement and successes of his children, whether cheering on his son’s athletic career at Westfield State University, or celebrating an Ole Miss win in Oxford, MS with his daughter. These are the moments he cherished the most.
He is survived by his loving wife Kathryn Condos Clancy of Quincy, his pride, Aaron Clancy of Quincy, and his joy, Sarah Clancy of Dallas, TX. Dear brother to Steven Clancy, and his wife Paula of Oak Ridge, TN, and Lynn Liscio of Nashua, NH. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. He will be truly missed.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday 5/18/2025 from 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM on Monday 5/19/2025 prior to the Funeral Mass in St. John’s Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Glenn may be made to Friendship Home, 458 Main Street, Norwell, MA 02061.
