Celebration of Life
Gustaf A. Hegg (Gus) passed away at home after a long illness on March 14, 2026, aged 85. Gus was born and brought up in the Houghs Neck section of Quincy. Although he left Quincy to lead a life of adventure elsewhere for many years, he eventually returned and settled again in Houghs Neck with his British-born wife Rosie whom he met in Nepal while both were travelling in Asia. Gus graduated from Quincy High School and served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany and Turkey from 1957-60. He then lived and worked around the Boston area and also in San Francisco. He took courses at the Harvard Extension School and the University of California. He was a member of the IUEC (International Union of Elevator Constructors) but retired early due to an injury. Gus made plenty of time to travel extensively throughout the world and was noted for being willing to go where angels fear to tread. He travelled overland from Europe to Afghanistan three times and with his wife Rosie had many adventures in Africa. Gus was also a voracious reader, a talented artist, and an exceptional cook. He was the son of the late Helge and Alice (Johnson) Hegg and brother of the late David Hegg and Richard Hegg. He is survived by his wife Rosemary (Dickson) Hegg and many cousins.
A memorial service will be held at the Bethany Congregational Church in Quincy at 11am on Tuesday, March 31st, to be followed by a celebration of life gathering at Quincy Yacht Club, Nash Hall, from 12-3pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
