Visitation
Keohane Funeral Home

McDonald, Irene F. (McDonald) of Franklin, formerly of Quincy and South Boston, passed March 25, 2026.
Irene was born and raised in South Boston, later raising her daughters there. She worked for 30 years as one of the first female court officers in Massachusetts, in both Roxbury and South Boston District Courts. Irene enjoyed being crafty, including crocheting and ceramics and loved Boston sports teams. An avid researcher in genealogy, she made sure her children were educated with their family roots. She was always known to be resourceful and made the best of what she had. Her family and friends will miss her great laugh and her rambunctious attitude.
She is survived by her adoring daughters Lori Black and her husband Christopher of Marshfield, Kari Thibeault of Franklin, as well as her cherished grandchildren Matthew, Kayla, Violet, and James. She is also survived by her uncle Thomas J. Sullivan of Quincy, niece Kathleen Harkey and her husband Jeffrey of Natick, and nephew James Kelley of Maynard. Predeceased by her parents Francis and Eleanor McDonald, her sister Margaret “Peggy” Kelley and her former husband Thomas B. Thibeault.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday 3/31/2026 from 12PM - 2PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A brief prayer service will close the visitation at 2pm, all are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in loving memory of Irene to Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
