Irene Murphy

On January 2, 2025, Irene Murphy of Middlesbrough, England and Limerick, Ireland, was reunited with her soulmate and husband, Richard P. Murphy, whom she loved immensely. 

She is also reunited with her mother and father, Edward and Hilda Sherris, her siblings, and many other family members and friends. She is survived by her four children, Richard E. Murphy of Quincy, Massachusetts, Eileen B. Farmer and her husband, Richard of Middleboro, Massachusetts, Peter J. Murphy and his wife, Michelle, of Abington, Massachusetts, David P. Murphy and his wife, Sara, of Connecticut, her eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom love her immeasurably. Irene is also survived by many friends, both in the Women’s Club of Ireland and in the Moorings in Quincy, both of whom adore her and will miss her friendship. 

Irene will be remembered for the light she brought into a room, the joy she brought those she loved, her remarkable strength, and her beautiful singing voice. 

Irene’s family respectfully invites you to join in celebrating her long and joyous life on Friday, January 10, 2025 during the visiting hours of 3:00-7:00 pm at the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Church in Quincy MA with burial to follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Boston, MA. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Irene’s name to the St. Jude Foundation online for research and care of children with cancer.
