Buckley, John J., Jr. “Jack” of Hingham, formally Quincy, died peacefully surrounded by loved ones on May 21, 2025.

Jack was born on July 28, 1939 in Boston to the late John and Charlotte (MacDougall) Buckley. Beloved husband of 57 years to Christine (Flanagan) Buckley. Loving father of David Buckley of Falmouth, Julie Riley and her partner Kevin MacDougall of Scituate, and Sara Knudsen and her husband Michael of Quincy. Cherished brother of Daniel Buckley of Somerset, Mary Ann Jurkiewicz of Forestdale, Charles (Linda) Buckley of Lakeville, Margaret (John) Barrett of Medfield, Ann of Kalamazoo MI, wife of deceased brother Joseph and the late James Buckley. Devoted Grandpa to Mia, Charley, Timothy, Molly, Anna, Nora, Michael, Shannon, and Emily. Also survived by many adoring nieces and nephews.

Jack grew up in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston where he graduated from Hyde Park high in 1957. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree from Boston College and later his Master’s Degree from Bridgewater State University. He was a well-loved history teacher for many years at Central Middle School in Quincy. He was a heartfelt and caring educator, particularly known for his passionate story telling and animated style of teaching, making a profound impact on countless students. During his teaching career he spent time as President of the Quincy Education Association. His greatest career highlight, however, was his ability to foster a genuine connection with each individual student showing empathy and encouragement. He is known by students for decades as their “favorite teacher”. Many of his former students have proudly professed that Mr. Buckley inspired their own pursuit toward a career in education.

Jack’s family and faith were very important to him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday 5/29/2025 from 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 758 Hancock St., Quincy. A Funeral Mass will be will be held on Friday 5/30/2025 at St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetary, Scituate. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jack may be made to The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism.
