James “Jim” Brown, of Quincy (formerly of Hyde Park), a proud veteran of the United States Navy, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025 at the age of 95 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the son of the late Samuel and Katherine (Coughlin) Brown.
Jim graduated from Hyde Park High School and also attended Northeastern University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He continued to serve his country working as a metallurgist for the United States Army Materials and Research Center at the Watertown Arsenal retiring in 1990. Jim was a member of the American Legion Morrisette Post # 294 and a spousal member of the Quincy Lodge of Elks # 943. A man of deep faith, Jim was an active parishioner of St. John the Baptist and St. Joseph Collaborative in Quincy. He served as Treasurer of the Holy Name Society and was a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus, where he rose to the rank of Fourth Degree Knight.
Above all, Jim’s greatest joy was his family. He shared 66 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Elizabeth M. (Taylor) Brown. He was the devoted father of four daughters: Maryanne (Christopher) Weishaupt of Milford, CT, Catherine (Timothy) Houston of Reading, MA, Susan (Christopher) Trojan of Cranford, NJ and Patricia (Andrew) Elkins of Worcester, MA. Known fondly as Grandpa, Buppa, and Pop-Pop, Jim cherished his nine grandchildren: Lauren (Michael) Dorrenbacher, Alexander (Kassandra) Elkins, James Houston (Fiancé Katie), Kaitlin Elkins, William Weishaupt, Patrick Trojan, Theodore Trojan, Benjamin Elkins, and Erin Trojan.
Jim was preceded in death by his brothers, Samuel and Eugene Brown and by his dear friends, Edward Gibbons, Francis Hanafin, John Hanafin, Daniel Hart, John Tolland and Robert Swanton.
