Listen to Obituary

James A. Cassidy, 83, of Weymouth, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Boston and raised in South Boston, he was a son of the late John and Irene (Marlborough) Cassidy. Jim was a graduate of South Boston High School, Class of 1962. Following high school, he worked as a construction analyst for the Boston Redevelopment Authority. A longtime resident of Weymouth, Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army, serving time in Korea and later deploying to Vietnam in the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Jim dedicated 25 years to protecting his community as a Weymouth Police Officer, retiring as a Sergeant in 1999. After retirement, Jim worked security for Thayer Academy and Braintree High School, and volunteered for the South Shore Elder Services Meals on Wheels program.

In his spare time, Jim enjoyed fishing, boating, working in his yard, and always enjoyed having a dog by his side. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and grandsons. His warmth, presence, and dedication to his loved ones will be deeply missed.

Jim was the beloved husband of the late Maureen (Collins) Cassidy, and brother of the late Dorothy Conley and Claire Cassidy.

He is survived by his loving children: Deborah Shea and her husband, Brian, of Weymouth; James A. Cassidy, Jr. and his wife, Gina, of Weymouth; and Kerry Cassidy and her partner, Todd Ferri, of Braintree. He was the proud "Grampy" to James III, Brennan, Ryan, Colin, and Jameson, and is also survived by several cherished nieces and nephews.

Jim’s family wishes to express a special thank you to all of the healthcare workers who provided him with exceptional care and comfort, including those at Mass General Brigham Internal Medicine, South Shore Health, Dwyer Home, Windrose, and Croi Hospice.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday 8/12/2026 from 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital).
