It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James Carl Coco, Jr., 80, of Plymouth, MA, who passed away peacefully at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Plymouth, surrounded by his family on June 4, 2025.
Born in Boston and raised in Quincy, MA, he was the son of the late James Coco and Josephine (Salhaney) Coco of Quincy, MA and later, Milton, MA.
Jim graduated from Quincy Trade School in 1962 and then enlisted in the Army National Guard. He began working for his father in his Heating and Air Conditioning business when he was 14 years old. When Jim was 30, he started his own business in his name, which he successfully ran up until his passing.
Jim was faithfully and lovingly married to Diane (Grant) Coco for 58 years. Over the years, he has enjoyed spending time with family and friends at his chalet on a lake near North Conway, NH; followed by his home on Cape Cod; and more recently at his second home during winters in Naples, FL. He was a passionate New England Patriots fan who held season tickets for many years. He also loved boating adventures, clamming with his grandchildren, and traveling.
Jim had the gift of gab and brought joy and laughter to everyone around him. He treated friends as if they were an extension of his family, and was deeply loved by many. Jim had an extraordinary ability to connect with people from all walks of life. His genuine interest in others and their stories made everyone feel valued.
Remaining to cherish Jim’s memory are his wife Diane; brothers Frank Coco and his wife Cheryl of Delray Beach, FL and Robert Coco and his wife Jeanne of Gainesville, VA; daughters Carolyn Cerce and her husband Vincent of Norton, MA and Joanne Sellstone and her husband Michael of Bridgewater, and son James Coco and his wife Lesley of Norwell, MA; eight grandchildren: Kendra Cerce, Travis Sellstone, Anthony (Tony) Cerce, Jonathan Coco, Matthew Coco, Victoria Sellstone, Sophie Coco, and Benjamin Coco; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 10 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St. Quincy, MA 02170. A Funeral Home Service and military honors will be held on Wednesday, June 11 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory may be directed to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284.
