Shea, James J., Jr. of Weymouth, originally of South Boston, passed away March 10, 2024 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 74. James was born in Boston to the late Agnes Flaherty and the late James J. Shea, Sr. Upon completion of Brighton High School, he voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He served in the 9th Engineer Battalion, 3rd Marine Division as a Combat Engineer. He was awarded the Purple heart after being heavily wounded in action on November 2, 1967. It was this sacrifice for his country that fueled his passion for helping others, supporting his fellow veterans and instilling a sense of service to his family. James was heavily involved in the veteran community as a member of Order of the Purple Heart, VFW Chapter 9260, DAV, America Legion, Perkins Post, The Knights of Columbus and Paralyzed Veterans of America. James was a history buff, enjoyed cars and the newest gadgets and loved to travel especially to Gettysburg and Washington DC. He also enjoyed listening to music and most of all spending time with his family.
Beloved husband of Joan M. (Curtin) Shea. Loving father of Lisa Solares of Weymouth, Colleen Connerty and her husband Edward of Norwell, James J. Shea, WFD and his wife Jacqueline of Halifax, Joan M. Veit and her husband Erik of Mansfield and Richard F. Litto, BPD of South Boston. Dear brother of Karen O’Brien of Brockton, Marjorie Ruggeri of Plymouth and the late Annmarie Conley. Also survived by 9 grandchildren; Kaitlyn Solares, Catherine Connerty, Grace Connerty, Allison Connerty, Olivia Shea, Francesca Shea, Antonia Shea, Erik Veit, II and William Veit. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday 4-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Friday, prior to the funeral mass in St. Monica Parish, South Boston at 10:30 AM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Boston.
