Obituary

Listen to Obituary

James “Jimmy” Tierney, of Weymouth, passed away peacefully at home on March 31, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 59 years old.

Born in Boston and raised in Holbrook, Jimmy made Weymouth his home for the past 23 years. A proud graduate of Archbishop Williams High School, Class of 1985, he went on to enlist in the United States Marine Corps—a commitment that reflected his strength, discipline, and deep sense of loyalty.

Jimmy carried his Irish heritage close to his heart and found great joy in traveling to Ireland with family and friends. He approached everything in life with passion and precision, whether it was woodworking, running, or personal training. He held himself to a standard of excellence that inspired those around him. A lifelong lover of hockey, Jimmy played in his younger years and later found immense pride and happiness in coaching his sons, sharing not only the game but his values of teamwork, perseverance, and dedication.

Above all else, Jimmy was a devoted husband and a deeply loving father. He was the heart of his family—steadfast, supportive, and endlessly proud of his wife and children. Whether cheering from the stands, offering guidance, or simply being present, he gave his family his very best every day.

Jimmy was happiest when surrounded by those he loved. He treasured time spent with family and friends, often gathering at The Cottage Bar and Restaurant, where his laughter, warmth, and larger-than-life spirit filled the room. He had a remarkable ability to bring joy to any occasion, and his presence made every moment brighter.

Jimmy was the beloved husband of Linda (Farrell) Tierney, and the loving father of Sean, Liam, Erin, and Declan Tierney of Weymouth. He was the cherished son of Patricia Tierney of Weymouth and the late James, and the devoted son-in-law of Jacquelyn Farrell of Weymouth and the late John.

He was the dear brother of Joseph Tierney of Braintree and his late wife Tracey, Donna Pettenati and her husband Paul of Sandwich, and the late Patrice Berneburg, whose husband John survives her in North Attleboro.

Jimmy was also a loving brother-in-law to Marlene O’Connor and her husband Brendan of Manhattan Beach, California, and Sharon Carlino and her husband, Robert, of Wakefield.

He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 4–8 PM at McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, South Weymouth, 809 Main Street (Route 18, opposite South Shore Hospital).

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 10 AM at St. Francis Xavier Church in Weymouth, followed by committal prayers and Military Honors at Mount Hope Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jimmy’s memory may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, P.O. Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.
