Janet M. (Theodore) Austin of Weymouth, and formerly of Holbrook, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. She was 79 years old.

Janet was born in Boston to the late James and Irene (King) Theodore. Janet was known for her kindness, big heart, and generous spirit. She found real joy in helping and giving to others. She always delighted in gift-giving and shared her kindness freely with her nieces and nephews, as well as her great-nieces and nephews. Her caring nature and generosity extended far beyond her family. Janet was always donating, lending a hand, and standing up for the underdog whenever she could.

Janet was strong-minded and independent. She knew who she was. She had a quick sense of humor, loved to laugh, and many good times were shared when she was around. As the youngest in her family, she held a special place in the hearts of her loved ones. She cared deeply for her mother and devoted herself to looking after her, always with unwavering love and loyalty. Janet enjoyed the simple things in life. She liked using Google and YouTube, and she always kept her old, reliable VHS movies. These simple comforts made her happy and gave her a sense of home.

Janet worked for many years in hospitality, most recently as the administrator of the Starlight Hotel in Holbrook and Braintree. She truly loved working with people and enjoyed meeting everyone along the way. She retired in 2013, marking the end of a career she was proud of. Janet will be remembered for her generosity, independence, humor, and her steady care for those she loved. She will be missed by everyone whose life she touched.

Janet was the sister of Carolyn Federico and her late husband, Luigi, of Quincy; the late Gloria Welch of SC; and the late Richard Theodore and his surviving wife, Anne, of Framingham. She was the aunt of Linda I. Federico of Pembroke, Allison Boulanger, and her husband Paul of South Carolina, Patrice Boussy, and her husband Michael of Hanson, Dede Guertin and her late husband Doug of Uxbridge, Karen Shea and her

husband Bill of Framingham, Elaine Kelley and her husband Gerry of Ashland, Stephen Theodore, and his wife Allyson of Watertown. Janet is also survived by many great-nieces and great-nephews, especially Jake Hamilton.

Following the cremation, Janet will be interred in Plain Street Cemetery, Braintree, at a later date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Janet’s name to the charitable organization of your choice.
