Janet Shaw Tooker, age 81, a resident of Scituate, MA for over 50 years, and most recently of Hingham, MA, passed on September 2, 2025 maintaining her defining characteristics of humor and grace until the end.
Janet was born in Queens, New York in 1944, to Angela and Arthur Shaw. At age 8 her family moved to Abqaiq, Saudi Arabia, for several years which began a lifelong enthusiasm for travel. She worked for Pan American Airways in New York then later in Boston which lead to her becoming the travel manager for Arthur D Little. After leaving ADL, Janet returned to college to complete a BA and then an MA in Art History. With her experience and combined degrees, Janet planned and taught a Travel and Tourism program at Massasoit Community College, and incorporated her own travel experiences and art history background into her teaching. Janet was also an accomplished painter who worked in oils, watercolor, and, most often, in pastels.
She married Stephen M. Tooker in June 1967, and their daughter Jessica arrived in 1983. As a family they enjoyed travel, their beautiful garden, Janet’s excellent cooking, and hosting wonderful get-togethers for family and friends. Janet was pre-deceased by her husband, Stephen, and her younger sister Angela K Shaw. She is survived by her daughter Jessica Tooker, her sister Madelyn and brothers Arthur and Michael (Shaw), sisters in law Cheryl Doyle and Rikki Tooker, and respective spouses and children, plus innumerable friends, former students, and colleagues who will remember her for her wit, charm, intelligence, and laughter.
