Jean Roberta Kenney of Hingham, MA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 6, 2026, at the age of 87. She had been a resident of memory care at Linden Ponds in Hingham for more than four years, with her condition declining sharply during the week before her passing.
Jean was born on April 6, 1939, in South Weymouth, MA, the youngest of five children born to the late Joseph Omar and Ethel Ellen (Moody) Darling. She graduated from Jeremiah E. Burke High School in Dorchester in 1957. Throughout her working years, she was primarily employed as a bank teller, bookkeeper, and property manager in and around the Boston area. Jean and Dick made their home in Hull, MA, where they lived for more than 30 years before moving to Linden Ponds in 2021.
Jean was the beloved wife of nearly 44 years to Richard L. Kenney. Her husband, Dick, was the love of her life, and together they shared an abundance of wonderful experiences, including traveling, spending time with their many grandchildren, boating on Boston Harbor, attending the symphony, reading, and playing cribbage.
Jean was a longtime, active member of South Shore Baptist Church, where she served in many roles until moving to Linden Ponds. One of her greatest joys was singing in the church choir and serving with Vacation Bible School. She had a bright, positive spirit, rarely without a smile and always ready with an uplifting word for those around her.
Jean bravely faced her diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease ten years ago and worked actively to lessen its impact on herself, her husband, and her family. Her strength, faith, positivity, and love for those around her will be deeply remembered by all who knew her.
In addition to her husband, Dick, Jean is survived by her two beloved sons, John (Rebecca) Christoforo of West Boylston, MA, and James Christoforo of Quincy, MA; her grandchildren Andrew, Matthew, Hannah, Noah, and Mia; her stepchildren, Richard L. Kenney II of Brownsville, ME and Margaret (John) Cuozzo of Norwell, MA; her step grandchildren; her sister, Phyllis Perkins of Portland, ME; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Thursday, August 13, from 4:00–7:00 PM at Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald Street, Hingham, MA. A funeral service will be held at South Shore Baptist Church, 578 Main Street, Hingham, MA, on Friday, August 14, at 10:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
