Jean Marie (Nightingale) Murphy of Quincy, and a former longtime resident of West Melbourne, FL, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Tuesday, August 18th, surrounded by the warmth of her loving family and friends. She was 75 years old.

She was born in Boston to Rita M. (Wood) and John V. Nightingale and raised in Dorchester. Jean was a proud graduate of Cardinal Cushing High School. Her professional journey was varied and vibrant, ranging from her many years at Masco and a stint as a toll collector in New Hampshire to an administrative role at a Florida hospital, where she found joy working with children in the daycare.

Jean’s life truly revolved around the people she loved. She met her husband and cherished best friend, Jerry Sr., in the 1980s, and they began their 39-year adventure together in 1987. After moving to West Melbourne in 2004, they dove into local life, quickly making friends while riding around the community on their golf cart and becoming staples at the clubhouse for Friday night cornhole and Monday night bowling leagues. Jean spent her days with Jerry, doing everything together. The inseparable pair loved watching sports, going out for nice meals, or simply treasuring each other's company.

In her spare time, she enjoyed being by the water, whether at their pool, on the beach, or in their boat. Jean was happiest near the water. She cherished memories of camping trips, wildlife sightings at the Brevard Zoo, and tropical escapes to Aruba. She was an avid Boston Sports fan, but loved sports of all kinds. Most of all, she treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren and her great-grandchild.

Jean was feisty, witty, and always brought the fun to any function. She was someone who always looked after others and made them feel safe, special, and cared for. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Beloved wife of 39 years to Jerry Murphy Sr. of Quincy and West Melbourne, FL. Loving mother to Shawn Murphy and his wife Jennifer of Wakefield, Gerald Murphy Jr. and his wife Denise of Houghs Neck, and Erin Murphy of Houghs Neck. Adoring grandmother to Kayla Mann of Houghs Neck, Abigail Lee and her husband Justin of Charlestown, Ashley Murphy and Shane Murphy, both of Houghs Neck, and adoring great-grandmother to Leo Starobin of Houghs Neck. Loving sister to Jack Nightingale of Cotuit, Paul Nightingale and his wife Joanne of FL, Susan Nightingale, and Janet Nightingale, both of Cotuit. She was reunited in peace with her parents John and Rita Nightingale, and her sisters, Mary and Anne Nightingale. She is also survived by her niece and goddaughter, Lizabeth McAnney and her husband Corey, her great-nephew Eaghan Loud, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 12th, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Quincy Yacht Club, 1310 Sea Street, Quincy, MA 02169.
