He worked in the trade within the private sector for nine years before moving on to work at the City of Boston as an auto mechanic. After working his way up the ‘chain of command’, he went on to serve as the Superintendent of Auto Fleet Maintenance until his retirement in 2001. Shortly after, he took on part-time work for Driscoll Property Management, where he stayed for twelve years, before he retired (again).

In 1964, Jerry married his wife Evelyn (“Evie”). They enjoyed watching their four children grow up and play sports, including baseball, softball and basketball. Jerry enjoyed sports himself and played Gaelic football for the Cork Senior Club of Boston and New York.
