Jerome Holland

Mr. Jerome Holland of Abington passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family on June 19, 2025. He was 93.

He was born in Reengaroga, a small townland located just outside Baltimore, Co. Cork, Ireland. He was the third of four sons to John and Margaret Holland. In 1954, he immigrated to the United States alongside his older brother John, seeking new opportunities while carrying the spirit of Ireland with him.

He proudly served in the United States Navy before beginning a long and dedicated career at Harvard University and later at Boston Edison, where he worked for over 30 years. In 1958, he married Bridget Burke, a fellow Co. Cork native, in Brookline, Massachusetts. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising six cherished children — three sons and three daughters — and eventually settling in Weymouth, Massachusetts.

A man who valued hard work, loyalty, and the bonds of family, he remained deeply connected to his Irish roots throughout his life. He found great joy in the company of his many friends and relatives from Ireland, spending countless hours sharing stories, laughter, and memories of the old country.

Among his greatest sources of pride and happiness was his role as a grandfather. He adored his 14 grandchildren and his great-granddaughter. His love for them was steady and strong.

His legacy lives on in the love of his family, the friendships he nurtured, and the stories that will continue to be told in his honor.

Loving father of Jerome Holland and his wife, Michele, John Holland, Eugene Holland, Margaret Hayes and her husband, Stephen, Patricia Holland, and Pauline Barry and her husband, Brian.

Brother of Michael Holland and his wife, Margaret, of Hanover, the late John Holland and his late wife, Ann, and the late Patrick Holland and his late wife Mary.

Cherished Papa to Meghan, Erin, A.J. and his wife, Alicia, Matthew, Kaitlyn, Maeve and her husband, Kurtis, Shayne, Breda, Emily, Sean, Jake, Grace, Brooke, and Rubie. Great Papa to Holly.

Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday 6/24/2025 from 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital).

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM Wednesday 6/25/2025 prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Bridget’s Church, Abington at 10:30 AM

Burial will follow in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
