Burke, Joan A. (Joni) of South Boston died on the night of August 26, 2026 at her home surrounded by her children.
A lifelong resident of South Boston, she was the devoted wife of 59 years, tireless caretaker to her late husband Paul, also from South Boston, loving mother to her three children Maureen Hall and Michael Burke of South Boston, and Joseph Burke of Holly Springs, NC. She is survived by her sister Irene Walker and brother Richard Hamilton of South Boston. Joan was a loving grandmother to Hannah, Emily and Michael Hall of Millis, Kasey and Brendan Burke of North Andover, and Julianne, Thomas, James, and Teagan Burke of Holly Springs NC.
Joan will be remembered as a thoughtful, honest, and compassionate person, who would always go out of her way just to say hello, sincerely ask about someone's well being and always happy to chat with folks she did not know. She was generous in giving her time and support everywhere when she could.
Joni deeply loved the communities she was a part of and held dearly the friendships that came from them including St. Brigid's church, South Boston Yacht Club, Castle Island Association, and many others.
She was known as a skilled, crafty and creative seamstress, often making custom Christmas gifts for her grandkids out of random materials. She was sought out by many to sew articles of clothing and upholstery for both house and boat.
She worked tirelessly to raise her three kids supporting them through sports and activities even working nights at the bank to chip in.
Although we are all heart broken, we know she is at peace and in her husband’s and soulmate’s warm embrace.
Friends and relatives are invited to respectfully greet the family on September 3, 2026 from 4-8PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St. QUINCY. A Funeral Mass will be held on September 4th at 10AM in St Brigid's Church in South Boston. Burial will immediately follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
