Johanna M. (Cheever) McCafferty, (Mom, Nana) of East Weymouth, passed away peacefully to join her husband Paschal McCafferty, the love of her life in heaven on December 25, 2025. She was 87. During her final days she was lovingly cared for by her children and their spouses.
Johanna was one of 11 children, born in Boston to the late Edward and Margaret (Madden) Cheever on February 7, 1938. She graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1956
Loving and devoted mother of Joe McCafferty and his wife, Kit, of Whitman, Hanna Cazeault and her husband, Pete, of Plymouth, Mary Duran her husband, Bill, Paul McCafferty his wife, Michelle, and Paschal McCafferty his wife, Julie, all of Weymouth. Cherished and beloved Nana to Marie, Kyle, Brendan, Kelly, Nikki, Shawn, Kevin, George, Josh, and Paul. Great grandmother to Bryson, Teddy, Nora Jo and Clive. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Johanna worked as a clerk for Stone and Webster Engineering, McDonald’s, Microsonics and Level One. Johanna was a woman of profound faith and was involved with Immaculate Conception Church of East Weymouth as a Eucharistic Minister as well as teaching CCD. She adored her family and loved being a mother and grandmother. Johanna was an amazing example of kindness and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed by all those that knew and loved her.
Johanna is survived by her sister Dottie Fagan of West Roxbury, and sister in law Una McCafferty of Norwood predeceased by her siblings Jimmy Cheever, Jackie Cheever, Margaret Julius, Katie Litchfield, Marion Gillis, Blanche Scott, Eddie Cheever, Tommy Cheever, and Mary Kearns.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family during the visiting hours on Saturday January 10, 2026 from 9AM-10:30AM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital) followed immediately by her Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, 720 Broad Street East Weymouth MA at 11 AM.
Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth.
