John R. Campbell, 69 of North Woodstock, NH formerly of Braintree, MA, died unexpectedly while hiking on September 23, 2026.

He was born in Boston on July 13, 1957, to the late John and Agnes Campbell. John was raised in the Germantown neighborhood of Quincy alongside his four sisters Marianne, Christine, Jean, and Roberta. He was a 1975 graduate of Quincy Vocational Technical High School and a 1983 graduate of Northeastern University. John held various positions throughout his life, working for over 30 years in the high-tech industry, owning a UPS Store, working with the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office as well as many South Shore police departments, and most recently, volunteering with the US Forest Service at the Lincoln Woods trailhead.

John was a man of many talents. He could build anything, fix anything, and talk to you, sometimes for hours, about almost any subject or no subject at all. He also loved the outdoors. Throughout his life he was an avid skier, hiker, and more recently a cyclist. He loved being near and on the water, never turning down an opportunity to kayak or swim. Recently, John lived his dream, with a home in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and a home within walking of the beach in Amelia Island, Florida.

John is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Cheryl (Doherty) Campbell, his daughter Cailin and son-in-law Matt of Quincy, MA, his son John and daughter-in-law Meg of Rehoboth, MA, and his son Rob and his girlfriend Libbye of Royal Oak, MI, and his favorite people of all, his four grandchildren: Huck Sweet, Johanna Sweet, Nora Campbell, and Piper Campbell. He is also survived by his sisters, nieces and nephews, and beloved friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026 from 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. Funeral Mass in Holy Trinity Parish at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Quincy on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026 at 10 AM. Cremation will follow.
