 John Joseph Cashman, Jr.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Joseph Cashman, Jr. on Monday, July 28, 2025 surrounded by the love, tears, and memories of his forever grateful family.

A night of bowling sixty-two years ago brought two teenagers of Irish immigrants together and forever changed the lives of everyone who knew John and his wife, Mary P. “Trish” (Fox) Cashman.

John’s self-proclaimed greatest accomplishment was his family and he loved sharing stories. His new role as an angel will have him watching over his wife Mary and their five children and twelve grandchildren. Brian Cashman and his wife Julie of Mansfield, MA, and their children Mickey, Liam, Caileigh, and Emma; Kara Pellicano and her husband Bill of Hull, MA, and their children Olivia, Molly, Will, and Bridget; Kerry Cashman of Hull, MA; Michael Cashman of Hull, MA; and Sean Cashman and his wife Elizabeth Keane of Ipswich, MA, and their children Delia, Norah, Flynn, and Magnolia.

John joins his father John, mother Mary (Maguire) and brothers James and Kevin Cashman, all of Somerville, MA and is survived by his sister, Anne Maguire of Reading, MA.

John will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary, for blowing her a kiss followed by his nightly quip of "Good night, Trish. I love you." As a result of that bowling date all those years ago, John will forever live where he has always lived - in Mary’s heart.

John worked in the hospitality industry and for over thirty years was an executive in one of Boston’s largest catering firms. His funny demeanor and willingness to help others soon earned him the label “Employer of Convenience” as he would offer an opportunity to anyone, regardless of duration or history, in hopes that he might be able to help them.

John loved his Westerns and reveled in watching sheriffs and deputies chase bad guys across the plains with their six-shooters blazing all accompanied by his “cowboy dinner” of beans, hot dogs, and a coffee frappe.

A funeral mass celebrating John’s exceptional life will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 4, 2025, at St. Ann’s Church of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, 204 Samoset Avenue, Hull, MA.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to be made in John’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Grá go deo, a Dhaidí.
