Mr. John M. (Chick) Ciccolo, passed away peacefully at home on September 4.

He grew up in Dorchester’s St Brendan’s parish and graduated from Boston English High in 1950 where he was a gifted athlete, captaining the basketball team when it won the City Hub Championship and co-captaining the football team.

He attended Suffolk University and served in the US Navy.

He retired from the Boston Police Department in 1992 with the rank of Captain and subsequently served as a Captain for the Boston University Police. He was awarded the Department’s Medal of Honor for neutralizing the threat posed by a gunman who had shot and wounded his partner.

As the President of Police Promotional Services, he taught and mentored officers across the Commonwealth.

John was known for his honesty, integrity and kindnesses to those less fortunate. He never missed the opportunity to help people.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Joan (Maloney) Ciccolo.

Also survived by his four sons, Jack (Sid), Michael, Christopher (Angela), and Steven as well as eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Friday 9/11/2026 from 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital).

Funeral services will be celebrated on Saturday 9/12/2026 at 10 AM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.
