John T. “Jack” Davies Sr., of Bridgewater, formerly of Quincy and Braintree, died peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Brockton Hospital. He was 91.
Jack was born in Quincy on July 20, 1933, and was the son of the late Henry and Helen (Robertson) Davies. He was raised in Braintree, attended local schools and graduated from Braintree High School. Following graduation, Jack enlisted in the United States Navy on June 15, 1956. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on June 5, 1958. After returning home from the war, Jack joined the City of Quincy Fire Department, where he served the local community proudly throughout his career.
Jack was a devoted family man, proud public servant, and beloved friend, who died surrounded by those who loved him most.
He spent much of his life serving others, retiring in 1993 from the City of Quincy Fire Department after a distinguished career saving lives and protecting his community. He was the kind of man who would do anything for anyone—and never once asked for help himself.
Jack had a passion for tinkering and could fix just about anything. Known to many as “Mr. Fix It,” he was an avid auto mechanic who loved working on cars in his spare time. He had an adventurous spirit, enjoying world travel, vacationing aboard cruise ships, scuba diving with the South Shore Divers Club in Quincy and most of all, spending time on his yacht cruising Boston Harbor, visiting the surrounding islands or special, evening rides with his family to watch Independence Day fireworks unobstructed, under the stars. Jack was most at peace near the ocean.
He was a quiet hero, choosing humility over boastfulness—who saved countless lives during his time as a Quincy Firefighter, and, in his everyday civilian life. His accomplishments were many, though he'd never brag about them. Instead, he poured his energy into loving his family, doting on his grandchildren, and showing warmth to every child who crossed his path. When he retired, he helped babysit his youngest granddaughter. The two of them would walk to the nearby beach and collect pretty rocks that they would turn into their special version of 'stone soup' when they returned home. Jack and his wife opened their hearts, and home, to several homeless foster children, loving them as if they were their own.
He loved watching Judge Judy every day at 4 PM, and never missed a good military movie. He also enjoyed reading a good mystery novel. Jack relished dressing up as Santa Claus to bring joy to others at Christmas time, and always had a fire glowing in the fireplace—a place where stories, laughter, and love were shared.
Jack will be fondly remembered for his big heart, generous spirit, and unwavering love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, selflessness, and extraordinary humility.
Jack was the beloved husband of the late Kathleen E. (McMahon) Davies, who died in 2019. He was the devoted father of John T. “Jack” Davies Jr. and his wife Rhonda of Braintree, Linda Pace and her husband Scott of Holbrook, and Chrissy Pace and her late husband Shawn of Norwood. Jack was the loving grandfather of Nick Pace and his wife Julie of Foxboro, Rachel Pace and her spouse Jenn of Bridgewater, Courtney Pace of New Hampshire, and the late Julie Porfiris and her surviving husband John of North Carolina. He was the loving great grandfather of Kaleb Porfiris of North Carolina, Julian Pace of Bridgewater, Brandon and Tyler Bollin of Foxboro. Jack was the dear brother of Beverly Lindquist and her husband Joe of Cape Cod, William Davies and his wife Arlene of Bridgewater, and was preceded in death by his other eight siblings. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
