Murphy, John F., Jr., 91, of Quincy, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on March 22, 2026.
Born and raised in Quincy, John graduated from Thayer Academy in 1952 and went on to earn an engineering degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology. He was the longtime President of the A.F. Murphy Die & Machine Company, Inc., in North Quincy, a manufacturing company founded by his grandfather in 1907.
A man of deep faith, John served in many capacities at Sacred Heart Church in North Quincy, most notably as a volunteer with the Saint Vincent de Paul Society for more than fifty years. Through this work, he devoted himself to serving those most in need.
John was the beloved husband of the late Barbara R. (Campbell) Murphy, with whom he shared 62 years of loving marriage. He was the devoted father of Rosemary Ruggere and her husband Michael of Weymouth; John Murphy and his wife Marie of Quincy; Betty Connolly and her husband James of Weymouth; Tim Murphy of Quincy; Nancy Dunn and her husband Christopher of Hanover; Kim Kazangian of Quincy; Sandra Sullivan and her husband Sean of Weymouth; Barbara Murphy of Weymouth; and Joseph Murphy and his wife Rebecca of Charlestown.
He was the cherished “Bumpa” to seventeen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. John was son of the late Barbara L. (Keeley) and John F. Murphy, Sr., and brother of the late Barbara R. Boyle.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, March 30, from 4:00–8:00 PM at the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, Quincy.
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 31, at 10:00 AM at St. Albert the Great Church, 1140 Washington Street (Route 53), Weymouth.
Burial will follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
