John B. O'Connor

O’Connor, John B. a Hingham resident for the past 51 years, passed away on January 2, 2025. 

John was born in 1934, the son of the late John B. and Ethel May (Downey) O’Connor and brother of the late Carol Ann (O’Connor) Dodds. Beloved husband of 56 years to Elizabeth (Gerety) O’Connor of Longford, Ireland. Devoted father of Patricia Wills of Hanson, MA and David O’Connor of Flemington, NJ. John was a proud and adoring “PAPA” to his grandchildren Justin, Bridget, Paige, Sydney, and Jacob.

John was born and raised in Mission Hill, Boston. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Following his military service, John worked at Boston Edison Co. until he retired in 1994 as a control operator for the L Street station in South Boston. 

John enjoyed his longtime hobby of buying, fixing, and trading in cars. When his family was young most Sundays after church, John could be found, with David and Patricia in tow, at local car lots looking for his next project car. He loved camping with his family, with many memorable trips exploring all over New Hampshire. Once he retired, he had more time to enjoy his camp on Baxter Lake in New Hampshire. 

John lived a long and good life providing for his family. Over the last many years, John enjoyed the comfort of his home in Hingham. He was grateful to have been able to remain in his own home until his recent illness. 

John loved people and loved to talk. He was an original and will be missed by his family and friends. 

A Funeral Mass will be Saturday 1/11/2025 in Church of the Resurrection, Hingham at 11 AM. Burial in Liberty Plain Cemetery, In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to Church of the Resurrection, 1057 Main St. Hingham, MA 02043.
