John James Pickrell

Mr. John James “Johnny” Pickrell, age 58, residing in Calhoun, Georgia, departed this life on Thursday, November 27, 2025, in Calhoun, GA.

Johnny was born in Davis County while his father was stationed at Hill Air Force Base. Though born in Utah, his family’s roots were in Massachusetts. He was raised in the Catholic faith and baptized at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Manistique, Michigan.

A proud patriot, Johnny faithfully served his country in the United States Army during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. His service was a source of deep honor and pride throughout his life. Overseas, John and his twin brother Bob were known for their famous birthday boxing match…The verdict is still out on who actually won.

Following his military career, Johnny worked as a welder and millwright with Millwrights Local #1121 in Boston, Massachusetts.

More than anything, Johnny was devoted to his family. He was a loving and proud father whose world revolved around his two daughters. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his four dogs—Buddy, Tasha, Tails, and Brucie (whom he affectionately called “Zeus 2.0”).

Johnny was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Pickrell, Sr., and his stepfather, David Paul “Tex” Anderson.

He is survived by his wife, Heather Marie Benjamin of Calhoun, GA; his daughters, Samantha Marie Pickrell of Sandwich, MA, and Hunter Marie Pickrell of Calhoun, GA; his mother, Dixie Lee Anderson of Manistique, MI; his twin brother, Robert Lee “Bobby” Pickrell of Braintree, MA; his half-brother, and Richard Vernon “Rick” Klagstad of San Francisco, CA; aunts and uncles, Roberta and Tom Boyd of Manistique, MI, Debra and Daryl Jeffries of Wausau, WI, Robert Wayne Burns of Sal Saint Marie, MI; and father and mother-in-law, William and Catherine Benjamin of Cartersville, GA.
