John A. Player

WEYMOUTH - John A. Player, a proud lifetime resident of Weymouth, age 85, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025.

John was a long-time head custodian at Abigail Adams middle School Weymouth, his work ethic was unmatched.

He was an outstanding athlete that eventually resulted in his induction into the Weymouth High School hall of fame for football and baseball.

After graduating, he continued to excel in both football and baseball playing for Weymouth's outstanding semi-pro teams, as well as several years for the Quincy Morrisey Club Semi-Pro Football Team.

Johnny was always willing to give back and worked with the youth of Weymouth in the summer recreational programs. He also got into umpiring and for many years umpired at all levels throughout the South Shore.

If he was not watching sports in his spare time, he could be found in his yard tending to his meticulous lawn and gardens or attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

He is survived by his loving wife Fran (Goodwin) Player.

He was the son of the late Mary and George Player.

Brother to Mary DeGrenier and Margaret Paterno and the late George Player.

Stepfather to Deb Bzdula and her husband Bill, Karen Morse and her husband Dave, and Laurie Fuller and her late husband Bob.

Loving grandfather to Brian, Cory, Tyler, Brendan, Kelsey and Karley

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to meet at the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, 40 Sea St, North Weymouth on Friday, May 23, 2025 to depart promptly at 10:45 AM for a graveside service at 11 AM in St. Francis Cemetery, Weymouth.
