John P. Reardon, of Weymouth passed away peacefully at South Shore Hospital on August 14, 2026, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was 78 years old.

Born in Malden in 1947, Jack, as he became known, was the son of the late John and Claire (Hayes) Reardon.

Jack graduated from Malden Catholic High School, Class of 1965. After a variety of jobs, he found his passion in his concern for those dealing with mental illness and the stigma often associated with it. He enrolled at the University of Massachusetts, Boston and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Public and Community Service while working two jobs. Jack spent his career in a variety of impactful positions within the mental health community, and his work was recognized with numerous awards along the way.

Of his interests, music stood at the top of the list. Starting with the folk movement of the early 1960s and moving back through the forties and fifties and forward through rock and roll to the present day, Jack was an expert and enjoyed nothing more than sharing music with others. For a time, he hosted John Reardon’s Music Magazine on the MIT radio station developing theme shows and interviewing top notch musicians. Jack was also a rabid sports fan, most notably of the Boston Celtics and Red Sox. He relished a good political argument, especially concerning the issues about which he cared deeply.

Jack is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Patricia Johnson. They traveled through life together both literally and figuratively. Among their fondest memories are many visits to Trish’s native Wales to visit family there. He is also survived by his sisters, Paula Reardon of Canterbury, NH, Mary Thomas and her husband Gregory of Dana Point, CA, and brother Joseph and his wife Kimberly of North Andover, MA, in addition to many extended family and friends.
