John Irvine Shepard

John Irvine Shepard, a life-long resident of Weymouth, died peacefully on Monday, June 16, 2025, at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was 78.

John was born in Weymouth on September 7, 1946, and was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (York) Shepard. He was raised in Weymouth, attended local schools and graduated from Weymouth High School.

John was a devoted father, and a cherished friend. A hardworking truck driver and skilled roofer by trade, John was never one to shy away from a tough job. Known for being a “Mr. Fix It,” he could mend, build, or rig just about anything—whether it was around the house or on the road.

Outside of work, John found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved camping under the stars, casting a line on a quiet morning fishing trip, and losing himself in the soulful twang of bluegrass music. A diehard fan of the Grateful Dead, John lived with the same free spirit and warmth that marked the band's songs. His heart was as big as his laugh, and he made friends wherever he went.

John’s greatest joy was his family. He was a loving, funny, and dependable father who filled his home with laughter, love, and unforgettable memories. He had a gift for storytelling, a sharp wit, and an open heart that welcomed everyone in. Whether you needed a helping hand, a listening ear, or just a good laugh—John was your guy. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, craftsmanship, and unwavering love. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

John was the beloved husband of the late Diane (Fisher) Shepard, who died in 2005. He was the devoted father of Daniel J. Shepard of Weymouth, Jonathan Shepard of Whitman, Michael Link of Weymouth, and Lisa Mullen and her husband Robert of Nashua, New Hampshire. John was the loving grandfather of Stephen Shamey of Nashua, New Hampshire, Lauren Shamey of Florida, and Bobby Mullen of Nashua, New Hampshire. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Joe Shepard, Gladys Reiley, and Josephine Shepard. John is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Following cremation, John’s funeral services and interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in John’s name to the charitable organization of one’s choice.
