John P. Sontag Jr., of Hull, Massachusetts, passed away on October 9, 2026, in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. He was 79 years old.

Born on June 18, 1947, in Quincy, Massachusetts, John was the son of John P. Sontag and Dorothy Sontag. He was raised in Quincy, where he attended Quincy schools, and later studied at Wentworth Institute. Throughout his working life, he was employed as a restaurant manager, a profession he loved and one in which he spent many years.

John shared 59 years of marriage with the love of his life, Donna A. O’Neil Sontag, of Hull. Their long life together was at the heart of his story and a lasting source of love and strength for their family.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna; his daughter, Julianne Sontag Pierce Tassoni, and her husband, Frank Tassoni, of North Attleboro; and his son, Jack Sontag, and his wife, Susan Sontag, of Carver. He also leaves his cherished granddaughters, Kaeli Pierce of New Hampshire, Sophia Pierce of North Attleboro, and Olivia Sontag of Carver, who will carry his memory forward with love.

John is also survived by Dianne Sontag Murray, Paul Sontag, and Mark Sontag; by his sister-in-law, Carol O’Neil; and by his nephew, Nick O’Neil, and his partner, Nicholas Vaughan, of Weymouth. He also leaves many nieces and nephews, along with his loving K-9 sidekick, Charlie John.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John P. Sontag and Dorothy Sontag.

John will be remembered with love by all who knew him—for his devotion to his family, for the many years he spent doing work he truly enjoyed, and for the life he built with those closest to him. His memory will remain a blessing to his family and friends.

Friends and relatives are invited to greet the family for a visitation from 2-4PM on 10/14/2026 at Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald Street in HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately to follow in the funeral home at 4PM.
