John Joseph Walsh, Jr. (“Jackie”), of Weymouth, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was 73.
A resident of Weymouth for over 70 years, Jackie was the son of the late Loretta J. Walsh (Broderick) and John J. Walsh, Sr.
Jackie is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Gage, of Peabody. Father of Jonathan Walsh, of Peabody, and Gregory Walsh and his wife, Ashley, of Rowley. He was the proud “Papa” of Jacob and Cameron Walsh.
Jackie was a man who embraced life with energy and humor. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he enjoyed and played baseball, softball, basketball, hockey, and golf, as well as competitive darts, and was always ready to talk about last night’s game. He was a dedicated follower of all the Boston sports teams and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge of sports trivia.
Music was another passion—he loved attending concerts and listening to his favorite bands like the Grateful Dead, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and The Beatles.
Jackie was a member of IUPAT Glaziers Local 1044. He was proud to be a Glazier and bragged about how he helped to build Boston, working on many high rise buildings over his long career. He was proud of his work on 111 Huntington Avenue aka “The R2-D2 Building”, 200 Clarendon Street aka “John Hancock Tower”, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, and particularly proud of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.
He also worked as a part-time bartender at Chet's in Weymouth for many years, entertaining customers with stories and jokes.
Outside of work, he was known for his signature tie-dye T-shirts, his quick wit, and his ability to make people laugh.
He truly was the life of the party and brought joy wherever he went.
He cherished time spent with family, especially summers in Dennis Port, days at the beach, swimming, and enjoying ice cream at Sundae School—simple moments that became lasting memories.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Saturday 5/9/2026 from 10 AM - 1 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital).
A Celebration of Life will be followed at 1 P.M. in the funeral home.
