Joseph Charles “Joe” Bunszell age 89, of Weymouth, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, July 20, 2026.
Joe was born and raised in Roxbury, MA. He was the son of the late Henry and Sarah (Doherty) Bunszell.
He married the love of his life, Marie Driscoll on April 18, 1959. They were married at Saint Patrick’s Church in Roxbury.
Joe began washing windows in 1959 and in 1964, he and his late brother Henry (Buddy) Bunszell established Swift Window Cleaning Service. Together they quickly became the trusted name behind the sparkling windows of some of Boston’s and greater Boston’s most important institutions. As the business grew, they formed a partnership with Arthur and Sumner Auerbach of Hub Cleaning Service. In 2020, he passed the company down to two of his sons.
Outside of work, Joe was a devoted sports fan who loved the Red Sox and Patriots. He loved going on golf weekends with his sons and son-in-law. For years he was an avid candlepin bowler in various bowling leagues with his sons, son-in-law, and nephews.
He also loved traveling with his wife Marie to Florida, Las Vegas, Aruba, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Europe. He also went on yearly trips to Fripp Island with his daughter and her family.
Joe leaves behind a legacy built on hard work, loyalty, and family. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Joe is survived by his wife of 67 years Marie (Driscoll) Bunszell, and his children; Joseph Bunszell Jr. and his wife Kathy of Pembroke, Daniel Bunszell and his wife Ann of Abington, Michael Bunszell and his wife Barbara of Bridgewater, Gary Bunszell and his wife Denise of Hanson, and Heidi Lombard and her husband Mike of Bridgewater.
He was the loving grandfather of 14 - Joey, Mikey, Patrick, Kevin, Stephen, Carolyn, Eva, Rose, Rob, Melissa, Matthew, Mickey, Colin, and Willie as well as the loving great-grandfather of 4 - Marlon, Harvey, Audrey, and Lincoln. He was the brother of Jack Bunszell and his wife Margie of Weymouth. He was the brother of the late Audrey Connolly, Henry (Buddy) Bunszell, Marilyn Connolly, Patricia Glavin, Barbara Elson, Robert Bunszell, Donald Bunszell, and James Bunszell.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 2-5 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH, at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A - Bicknell Square).
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Monday, July 27, 2026, prior to the Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM.
Services will conclude with interment in Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Joe's name to the charitable organization of one's choice.
