Joseph C. Burke of Rockland, formerly of Weymouth, born and raised in South Boston, son of late Joseph F. Burke and Francis Buchanan (Pistorino), passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on July 13, 2026. Joe was 85 years old.
Joe spent 33 years with the U.S. Postal Service, where he was known for his reliability and strong work ethic. He served in U.S. Army HQ & HQ Co. 45th Engineer Group in Korea. In addition to his military service, Joe was a longtime member of the Weymouth Elks, where he embraced meeting up with the boys on Friday nights and Superbowl Sundays.
Joe and his former wife Irene Riley of Maine raised three boys who were his proudest achievements. He took great pride in being a father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Joe loved to travel and spend time with his family and friends, especially his truest lifelong friend Bill Brown of Quincy. He enjoyed meeting his friends at Starbucks and Dunks. Holidays also held a special place in his heart, Christmas and Saint Paddy’s Day were among his favorites.
He also enjoyed quiet pastimes and outdoor adventures. Joe loved doing crosswords puzzles, reading books, bike riding, camping, and especially boys weekends trips to "nowhere" with his cousins Stoney, Vinny and Charlie. He enjoyed trips to the hunting camp in Maine and the peace that came with time outdoors. These interests reflected in his curious mind, his love of nature, and his appreciation for both activity and relaxation.
Joe will be remembered for the laughter he shared. His life was one of hard work, loyalty, and simple joys. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and devotion that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Loving father to Joseph C. Burke Jr. and his wife, Margeaux of Easton, CT., Brian W. Burke and his wife, Maureen of Hanover, and David Burke and his wife, Kerry of Braintree. Grandfather to Kierstin, Samantha, Lexi, David Jr., Devyn and Joey III. Brother to Joanne Mclean and her late husband, Lincoln of Weymouth, Thomas Burke and his late wife, Diane of Weymouth, and Joyce Dunkle of Weymouth. Joe is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday, July 17, 2026 from 3-7 PM at the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home at 809 Main Street South Weymouth (Rte 18 opp. South Shore Hospital).
