Joseph L.
Davis
May 11, 1948 – May 21, 2026
McDonald Keohane Funeral Home - South
4:00 - 7:00 pm (Eastern time)
Chief Joseph L. Davis (Ret.), 78, of Brockton, passed away suddenly at his home on May 21, 2026.
Born in Newton, Massachusetts, Joe was the son of the late Tom and Mary Davis. Public service ran deep in Joe's roots; inspired by his father, Tom, a former Newton firefighter and his grandfather Joseph L Davis, a Newton police officer. Joe went on to find his own calling on the Weymouth Fire Department. Joe graduated from Massasoit Community College with a degree in Fire Science. Ever dedicated to mastering his craft and expanding his knowledge of the fire service, Joe attended the Franklin Institute, successfully completing advanced coursework to further his expertise and enhance his career.
Over a distinguished 38-year career, Joe rose steadily through the ranks with bravery, integrity, and a deep commitment to his fellow firefighters, culminating in his leadership of the department. He retired as Fire Chief in 2013, leaving behind a legacy of strong leadership, modernization, and the profound respect of the entire Weymouth community.
Chief Davis’s dedication to his department didn't end with his retirement. He was elected to the Weymouth Retirement Board, where he worked diligently and passionately to protect and better the lives of his fellow retirees. He remained a fierce advocate for those who had served, ensuring they received the care, support, and respect they earned.
Outside of his uniform, Joe’s happiest moments were spent surrounded by the people he cared about. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family and friends at Bow Lake in Strafford, New Hampshire, creating lasting memories by the water. He was a man of steady character, warmth, and quiet strength who always prioritized the people he loved.
Joe is survived by his loving sister, Kathleen Collins, and her husband Dennis of Melrose, MA. His loving aunt Carmella Davis of Florida, many cousins and caring neighbors. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Tom and Mary Davis (Hurley). He will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and the generations of firefighters who continue to serve under the standard of excellence he set.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday, May 28, 2026 from 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joe may be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island NY 10306 and/or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
