Joseph H. McCracken passed away peacefully with family by his side on May 16, at The Atrium at Faxon Woods at the age of 81.
Joseph was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 58 years Linda (Infusino), his three children Daughter Lisa, a Hingham Police Officer, his Son Eric and his wife Lauren McCracken, and Daughter Tami Bell and her husband Greg Bell.
He was also the proud and devoted Poppi of 4 grandchildren Autumn and Kyle McCracken, and Brooke and Shelby Bell.
Joseph was a longtime resident of the town of Hingham, after moving there during his childhood. He graduated from Hingham High School in 1962 and joined the United States Air Force, serving for 4 years.
Shortly after returning from the Air Force, Joseph joined the Hingham Police Department as a Police Officer, where he was a dedicated and valued employee for 41 years. He spent his career caring and protecting others, and was described by coworkers as one of the greatest Lieutenants they had served with, and one who always supported his officers in situations both personally and professionally. He retired as a Lieutenant in 2008.
Joseph was active in the community for years coaching football and volunteering with the Hingham Police Association at sponsored fundraising events and loved helping in the kitchen at their yearly Senior Lunch.
Joseph was an avid hockey player into his 70's, playing on several pick-up teams several times a week, at the Pilgrim Arena in Hingham. Joseph was also a diehard Bruins fan.
Joseph will be remembered as larger than life and leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at The Atrium at Faxon Woods for their love, care, and compassion for Joseph, during his short time living there.
Relatives and friends ae respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday June 4, 2025 from 4-7 PM in the Pyne-Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Joseph and mailed to The Atrium at Faxon Woods, 2003 Falls Boulevard, Quincy, MA. 02169. Please make checks out to One Company Fund.
Donations can also be made in memory of Joseph and mailed to the Hingham Police Association, 212 Central Street, Hingham, MA 02043.
