Judith M. Milburn

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Judy M. Milburn, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, who passed away peacefully in Hingham, MA on September 10, 2025, at the age of 90. Judy was born in Boston, MA in 1935, the second daughter of Julian Branker and Marjorie Mitchem.

She earned a B.A. in Education from UMass Boston and became a Licensed Social Worker (LCSW), beginning her professional career at the Department of Public Welfare as a social worker and work training specialist, and ultimately retiring as Director of Human Resources at South Shore Elder Services, where her commitment to the well-being of elders and their families left a lasting legacy.

Judy was married for over 50 years to her beloved husband, Rodney L. Milburn, who preceded her in death in 2010. She also endured the unimaginable loss of her daughter, Kimberly M. Milburn-Keita (1969-2002) in northern Portugal, yet carried on with strength and resilience.

She is survived by two daughters, the late Kimberly’s identical twin, Karen Vickerman of Hingham, MA, and Michelle Thomas of Charlotte, NC, as well as her elder sister Eunice Ellis of Ipswich and younger brother Julian Branker, Jr. of Haverhill. She has three grandsons and a slew of cousins, nieces and nephews who mourn her passing as well.

Pre-Covid she was an active member of the O.P.A.L.S, a senior choral group that performed for residents of nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other venues across the South Shore. And for many years, Judy also lent her beautiful soprano voice to the choir at the 2nd Congregational Church in Cohasset.

A clever woman with a sharp mind, Judy delighted in puzzles and crosswords, always eager for a challenge and quick with a smile or a thoughtful word. Her sense of humor, curiosity, and kindness were constants in a life full of both triumphs and hardships.

Details for a memorial service are TBD and the family invites all who knew and loved Judy to celebrate her life and legacy when these arrangements are finalized.

In the meantime, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Judy’s name to the Norwell Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice (NVNA), 120 Longwater Dr, Norwell, MA 02061.
