Katherine Ann Kent (Gorman), age 92, of Hingham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on July 13th, 2026 surrounded by her loving family.

Katherine was the beloved daughter of the late Francis and Ruth Gorman. She was the youngest of five children and was predeceased by her sister, Ruth Marie Donahue, and brothers, Francis, Thomas and Peter Gorman. She was raised in Milton and spent summers in Scituate. Katherine was a proud graduate of Milton High School, where she excelled in field hockey, golf and tennis and was voted “Most Athletic” by her peers from the Class of 1951. She then graduated from Katharine Gibbs School in Boston and went on to use her administrative skills at Hamel & Murray and later for over 15 years at Talbots headquarters.

In the summer of 1955, Katherine met the love of her life, Jim Kent, at the Barker Tavern in Scituate. They were married on September 29, 1956, at St. Mary of the Hills Parish in Milton. Jim and Katherine raised their five children in Hingham. During her years in Hingham, she devoted herself to her family and was an active member of the Catholic Women’s Club and St. Paul’s Parish, where she formed many lifelong friendships.

Katherine and Jim moved to North Falmouth in 1987 and fully embraced the Cape Cod lifestyle. She enjoyed playing golf and tennis as a member of Ballymeade Country Club. She hosted countless weekends on Old Silver Beach, often ending the day with happy hour on her back deck with her family. Those simple moments of laughter, conversation, and togetherness became some of her family’s most cherished memories. The Cape always held a special place in her heart.

After Jim’s passing in 1995, Katherine displayed remarkable strength, grace, and resilience. She remained the heart of her family, while always finding time to put the needs of others before her own. She volunteered with the American Cancer Society, driving patients to and from their treatments. Katherine was a devoted communicant of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in North Falmouth and an active member of St. Vincent de Paul.

In 2012, Hingham called her back and she embraced a new chapter at Linden Ponds, where she enjoyed reconnecting with her many dear friends while also forging many wonderful new friendships. Her passion for golf continued as she was known to play more than 75 rounds a season well into her seventies. She even won a closest-to-the-pin contest at the age of 89. She was a fiercely competitive bridge player who also enjoyed gardening and baking and was best known for her world renowned marshmallow brownies and gingersnaps.

Katherine’s greatest joy was her family. We find comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her beloved husband, James P. Kent Sr.; her son, James P. Kent Jr., and her daughter-in-law, Julie Kent (Bufalini). She will be greatly missed by her children: Kevin Kent and his wife, Robin, of Hingham and West Falmouth; Karen Appleman and her husband, David, of Stonington, Connecticut; Katherine Melia and her husband, Paul, of Duxbury; and Thomas Kent and his wife, Lisa, of Hingham.

She was the cherished “Mimi” to Patrick, Ryan, Katy, Erin, Julie, Megan, Jack, Kelly, Abby, Stephen, Maureen, Charlie, and Danny, serving as a constant source of love, encouragement, and unwavering support throughout their lives. She was also blessed to be Great-Grand “Mimi” to Joey, Caroline, Jimmy, Tommy, Johnny, Callie, and Jasper, whose laughter and love filled her with immense joy.

Katherine is lovingly remembered by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Judie Kent of Chatham, Massachusetts, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends. The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to all of her doctors and caregivers at Linden Ponds and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, especially Dr. Dimitrov and Dr Saraf. We are especially thankful to the wonderful staff at Linden Ponds, who made the past fourteen years feel truly like home.

Katherine will be remembered for her warmth, quiet strength, faith and resilience as well as her remarkable gift of making everyone feel welcomed, valued, and loved. We are profoundly grateful for the many wonderful years we were blessed to share with her and the values she passed on to all of us: grace, optimism and joy.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday 7/19/2026 from 4-7 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM.
