Kathleen Phyllis McKinnon, a lifelong resident of the Hough’s Neck neighborhood of Quincy, passed away peacefully comforted by the presence of her loving family on Thursday, September 18, 2025. She was 91.
She was born in Quincy to Katherine “Kitty” (Genter) and Michael Doherty. She graduated from Quincy High School. She met her husband to be, Robert McKinnon at a dance. The two made an undeniable connection and were soon after married, having 4 children. Becoming a mom, and eventually a grandmother meant everything to Kathleen. Her life centered around her family, and she thrived as a matriarch.
Her spare time was normally spent playing with her children, grandchildren and yes even a great grandchild. She was an avid traveler, from cruises, to road trips to tropical vacations, she visited many corners of the world and enjoyed every second. She often tried her luck at the casino or with a classic game of BINGO with friends.
Kathleen’s selfless devotion to her family, care and love for others will continue to shape the lives of all that were lucky enough to know and love her. She will be dearly missed.
Beloved wife of 51 years to the late Robert Joseph McKinnon. Devoted mother to Mary McKinnon of Quincy, Kevin McKinnon and his wife Lynne of Quincy, the late Gregory McKinnon and Terence McKinnon and his wife Melissa of Marshfield.
Adoring grandmother to Katherine (Alex), Gregory (Izzy), Elizabeth, Tyler (Samantha), Rebecca (Mike), Kyle, and Ryan. Great-grandmother to Maverick and a second on the way. Loving sister to Jimmy Doherty of Quincy. Also survived by pet companions, Bob and Buddy. Predeceased by her son, Gregory McKinnon, grandson Michael McKinnon, Siblings, Mike Doherty, Chuck Doherty and Anna Johnson, and parents, Katherine “Kitty” (Genter) and Michael Doherty.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 8:30-10 AM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45, on Wednesday September 24, 22025, prior to the Funeral Mass in Holy Trinity Parish at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Quincy at 10:30 AM.
