Kathryn McLeod, 82, of Weymouth, Massachusetts, passed away on October 9, 2026, following a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family.
Born to John and Evelyn Oglesby, Kathryn grew up in Dorchester before moving with her family to Dedham in her late teens. She met the love of her life, John “Bob” McLeod, on a blind date, and the two were married in 1965. They began their married life in Dorchester before settling in Weymouth in 1969, where they raised their two children and built a wonderful life together. Kathryn and Bob shared a love of travel, enjoying many adventures together and with friends, including spending a month each year in Naples, Florida, for several years following Bob’s retirement.
Above all, Kathryn cherished her family and friends. She had a remarkable ability to make friends wherever she went and took a genuine interest in the lives of everyone she met. She was always checking in on others, eager to hear their news and make sure they were doing well. Known for her extraordinary memory, Kathryn was often the person her friends turned to when trying to recall the details of a shared experience or a story from years gone by. She treasured her friendships, including a close group of friends, the Ya-Ya’s, she had known since elementary school.
Kathryn loved bringing people together. She was a wonderful cook who took great pleasure in preparing meals for family and friends.. She enjoyed a good party, loved planning gatherings, and was always happiest when surrounded by the people she loved. Whether playing dominoes, enjoying a board game, or sharing a cosmopolitan with friends, Kathryn appreciated the simple joy of good company and lively conversation.
Devoted to raising her family, Kathryn was an active member of the PTA while her children attended Weymouth schools and participated in a local women’s club in her younger years. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and rarely missed an opportunity to attend their games, performances, and other special events. Family gatherings were among her greatest joys, and she always wanted to be part of the occasion, catching up with relatives and hearing all the latest news.
Kathryn also took great pride in the beautiful garden and yard that Bob had lovingly created at their Weymouth home. Following his passing in 2020, she made sure it continued to be cared for, preserving a special part of the life they had built together.
Kathryn was predeceased by her beloved husband, John “Bob” McLeod, her parents, John and Evelyn Oglesby, and her brother, John “Jay” Oglesby Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Cushing and her husband, Dan; her son, Jeff McLeod; her five cherished grandchildren, Jocelyn, Nolan, Lucy, Kailey, and Alicia; and her great-grandchildren, Jayden and Layla. She is also survived by her sister, Marjorie Morales and her husband Robert Morales, and many loving nieces and nephews, with whom she shared close and cherished relationships.
Kathryn will be remembered for her warmth, her wonderful memory, her love of a good gathering, and, most of all, the genuine care and interest she showed in the lives of others. She leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and countless family members and friends who were fortunate to be part of her life.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home in South Weymouth. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis in Weymouth.
