Borek, Kay L. (Carter), of Quincy, in her eightieth year, after a more than two-year battle with cancer. Beloved wife of Michael for almost 57 years.
Kay was born in Boston and raised in Dorchester. She was a graduate of St. Peter’s School in Dorchester and a 1963 graduate of Cardinal Cushing High School. After attending the then-Fisher Junior College, she worked as an administrative assistant for the Gillette Corporation. She eventually left the work force for the noble task of caring for her family at home. After her children had grown, Kay returned to school and was graduated magna cum laude from the University of Massachusetts / Boston with a dual degree in English and Elementary Education. She then worked as a substitute teacher in the Quincy Public Schools until the birth of her granddaughters.
Wherever Kay went she spread kindness and joy, always the first person to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. An active member of the Wollaston Garden Club, Kay also spent hours tending to her own beautiful garden and watching it grow and change from season to season. She always looked forward to a trip to Nantasket Beach or into Boston for a ride on the Swan Boats or to see a show.
In addition to her husband, Michael, Kay is survived by her son, Rev. Derek Borek, of Weston and her daughter, Vicki McInnis of Weymouth. She was the loving Nana to her granddaughters, Alyssa and Melinda, and will be missed by her many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Rachel Carter, as well as her sister, Norma (Sis) Farley and her brother Norman Carter.
Kay’s family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Oncology Department at Massachusetts General Hospital and of the Norwell Visiting Nurses Hospice for their wonderful care for Kay.
