Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Penney, Kevin J. of Braintree, passed away after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma, surrounded by his loving family on May 3, 2026. He was 66 years old.

Born in Brockton, he was one of three children born to the late Gerard Penney and Carol Tretola.

Much of Kevin’s life was defined by hard work. He held three jobs for most of his life and never shied away from doing what needed to be done for his family and for those depending on him. He worked at Gillette for 25 years as well as owned and operated Brookside House Lodging in Quincy. He especially loved landscaping business as well. The fresh air, the green of the grass, and the satisfaction of a job well done suited him perfectly.

Kevin also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He was a devoted fan of Boston sports, especially the Celtics, Red Sox, and the Patriots and he followed them with the loyalty of someone who truly loved his teams. He enjoyed golf and the challenge and calm it brought. He also liked a good game of cribbage, where his sharp mind and comfort with numbers often gave him an edge. These interests reflected the steady, grounded nature that defined him.

Above all else, Kevin was a family man. He was married to Kim for 42 years, and their story began when they met at 18, a beginning that grew into a lifelong partnership filled with love, commitment, and shared memories. He loved his children deeply and took great joy in being Papa to his grandchild Oliver. His family was the center of his world, and he showed that love not only in words, but in the many ways he cared for them, supported them, and made himself available whenever he was needed.

Kevin was also a caring man who had a helping hand for others. He coached his three sons in Braintree Youth Basketball. He understood the importance of encouragement, patience, and setting a good example, and he gave those gifts freely. His influence reached beyond the court, as he helped shape young lives with his steady presence and genuine concern.

Though not very religious, Kevin lived with a strong moral compass and a deep sense of what was right. He was the kind of man people could count on, and his love, kindness, and thoughtfulness were evident in all he did. He will be remembered for his work ethic, his devotion to family, his love of the outdoors, and the quiet strength that carried him through life.

Kevin J. Penney will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His life was a testament to loyalty, perseverance, and love, and his memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to his family and friends.

Loving husband of 42 years to Kimberly (Belanger) Penney of Braintree. Cherished father to Brian Penney and his wife Stephanie of Denver, Colorado, Scott Penney and his partner Lauren of San Antonio, TX, and Christopher Penney and his wife Julia of Braintree. Doting Papa to Oliver Penney. Brother to Jerry Penney and his late wife Donna of Plymouth and Kathy Wallis and her husband Gary of Franklin. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
