L. Sheldon Daly Jr. died January 15, 2024.
Beloved husband for 64 years of Nancy (Penny) Daly. Born in Worcester to L. Sheldon and Gertrude (Foley) Daly. Grew up in Wellesley and spent many summers in North Scituate. Raised his family in Hingham and was the devoted father of Donna Maguire (Kevin), Maryclare Hickey (Robert), Sheldon (Bernadette Kelly), Michael, John and the late Robert and Matthew. Sheldon was the loving grandfather of Ian Kelly, Mari Daly, Margaret, Michael and William Maguire, Genevieve and Grace Hickey, Kasey and Camryn Daly, and great-grandchildren James and Ciara Maguire. He is also survived by brothers William Daly (Mary Lu) and David Daly (Denise). In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by Robert, and Timothy (Gael), as well as his sister Mary Gertrude Cahill (William).
Sheldon was a dedicated alumni of St. Sebastian’s Country Day School (1954) and Boston College (1958). He was a longtime member of the BC Varsity Club and the founder of the BC Hall of Fame Club. The BC athletic department recognized Sheldon for his many years of service by awarding him the William J. Donlon Special Achievement Award in 2003. Sheldon worked for his entire career as a material handling and storage equipment expert until he retired at age 82. He was a communicant of St. Paul’s parish where he was a longtime lector and choir member. He was the past president of the Hingham Rotary where he received the Paul Harris Award. Over the years Sheldon coached Pop Warner football and CYO sports. He participated in the Hingham Community Theatre, singing in many shows with his highly coveted deep bass voice.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to visit with the family on Sunday January 21st between 1-5 PM at the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald Street, Hingham. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am on Monday, January 22nd at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 147 North Street, Hingham, followed by interment at St. Paul’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pat Roche Hospice Home, 86 Turkey Hill Lane, Hingham, MA 02043.
