Lawrence “Larry” Conley, formerly from South Boston, passed away peacefully on August 15th, at the age of 53, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend, known for his quick wit, and unwavering support for those he loved.
A lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox, Larry had a passion for baseball that extended far beyond being a spectator. He coached his children’s baseball, flag football, and street hockey teams and rarely missed a single practice or game. He was also an umpire spending many hours behind the plate and on the field, giving back to the game he loved.
Larry was a collector at heart, with impressive collections of sports cards, comic books, and other treasured items, always believing they might be worth something someday. He loved music and could often be found singing along to his favorite tunes or quizzing his family with random music and trivia questions at dinner time. He even found joy in mowing the lawn, singing as he worked.
Known for his sarcasm, sense of humor, and knack for lighting up a room, Larry was also deeply reliable and a man of his word, a hard worker, the kind of person people counted on. But most of all, he found his greatest joy in watching his children play sports, cheering them on from the sidelines with pride and love.
Larry leaves behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and love, memories that will continue to echo in the stories told at family dinners, on baseball fields, and in the trivia no one else can seem to answer quite like he could.
Beloved husband of Melissa Kane-Conley of Weymouth. Devoted father to Johnathan Roy, McKayla Roy, and Jaxon Conley. Cherished son to Jean and William Cummings of Weymouth, and the late John Conley. Brother to John “Pat” Conley, Michael Conley, Jean Conley and the late Martin Conley. Uncle to Molly Sangster.
