Loren Maureen McBride of Norwell passed away on Thursday, May 28 after a hard-fought battle with a rare illness.
She was 51. She was born in Boston to Frances (Foley) and Michael Gates and raised in Quincy. She graduated from North Quincy High School and went on to earn her bachelor’s at St. Michael’s College. She worked as a teacher at St. Agatha's in Quincy before obtaining an office position in Boston. There she met Dan McBride. The two began dating and were married a few years later. They settled in Norwell and had a son, Jonathan. Determined to do something that felt rewarding, Loren went back to school, this time it was for hairdressing which she worked in for over 20 years. She also worked part time care assisting the elderly. Loren loved to travel, spent summer days at the beach and never passed on a chance to spend time with family in Maine. When she was home, she enjoyed her podcasts, true crime and hanging out on the back deck.
Loren had an energy that lit up a room. She was funny, opinionated and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Beloved wife of 22 years to Dan McBride of Norwell. Devoted mother to Jonathan McBride of Norwell. Cherished daughter of Frances Gates and the late Michael Gates. Loving sister to Michael Gates and his wife Jennifer of Squantum, Brian Gates and his wife Angela of Norwell and Kathlyn Reed and her husband Jason of Mont Vernon, NH. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday, June 2nd, from 4-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Loren’s name may be made to The Home For Little Wanderers, C/O Development Department, 72 E Dedham St, Boston MA 02118.
